Autodesk SketchBook Mobile (Free) — A new follow-up app to Autodesk’s highly popular original SketchBook app, this entirely new version is a complete from-the-ground up rewrite designed to unite the mobile experience across both the iPhone and iPad, allowing digital artists to capture inspiration on the go. The new SketchBook Mobile features an enhanced drawing toolkit including new layer blending modes, improved selection tools for manipulating, transforming and drawing ins specific parts of an image, and a whole new set of synthetic and smudge brushes along with great new fill tools including advanced gradients. In addition, the app has also been optimized for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
TeleStory ($ 3) — From LaunchPad Toys, the creators of Toontastic, this new app is designed to allow kids to use their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to easily create and broadcast their own TV show. Kids can choose from a wide variety of themes such as music, space, or reality TV and then mix and match over 30 animated scenes and 50 digital costumes that track the user’s face to record their own TV show, and even add special effects along the way. Users can craft their own script either from scratch or using a provided collection of TV tropes, and then broadcast their final creation to LaunchPad’s “ToonTube” network to share with other kids around the world.
Reckless Racing 3 ($ 5) — The classic dirt-road racing game returns in its third instalment, this time from the original developer, Pixelbyte. This sequel boasts the largest collection of cars and trucks to date—28 in total—and features a career mode that includes 60 events in 9 different seasons as well as an arcade mode that provides 24 unique challenges. Players can choose from a new precision stunt driving mode to test their skill in race events, a drift mode to skid around every corner, or a reckless mashup mode that mixes up the starting grid.
Cars: Fast as Lightning (free) — Gameloft debuts this official Disney-Pixar Cars game where players can jump into the action as any one of over 20 Cars characters, ranging from Lightning McQueen to Francesco Bernoulli. The Cars can also be customized with unique paint jobs, and players can fully customize their racing experience by setting up their own tracks and building up Radiator Springs with classic interactive buildings from the movies.
Calendars 5 ($ 7) — Readdle’s advanced Calendars app gets an iOS 8 update adding support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, its own specialized calendar widget for the iOS 8 Today view, and support for custom actions to snooze alerts and move events directly from the Notifications Center.
Spotify Music (free) — If you’re lucky enough to have one of the few vehicles that includes Apple’s new CarPlay technology, you’ll be happy to know that Spotify’s latest update adds support for Apple CarPlay, providing direct control of your Spotify experience right from your dashboard. The update also adds support for Swedish and Québécois.
